Melanie Ida Chopko + SKYTHINK + Hannah Cooper - 8pm // FREE

MELANIE IDA CHOPKO

MELANIE IDA CHOPKO writes and performs, "with wit, acuity and grace.” Her songs on guitar and piano featureastute lyrics and melody, and folding together modern folk and blues with a big crush on jazz. In the tradition of the citizen artist, she is as interested in the complexity of the world around her as the one within herself, exploring both with artistry, intimacy and humor. She blurs the line onstage between musician, storyteller and audience, making listeners laugh out loud and then cracking their hearts open. “She writes for all the right reasons- her songs are little gems.”

SKYTHINK

SKYTHINK is 4 songwriters & vocalists from Kiev, Texas, Quebec and New Jersey who weave together improvisation, body percussion and original songs through looping and layered harmonies. Touring from Vancouver Island down the west coast into California, we will be participating in a vocal improv workshop with Rhiannon. Along the way, we’re offering community-based collaborative live performances that are part prepared, part improvised.

HANNAH COOPER

Born and raised in Minnesota, Hannah Cooper is a singer-songwriter with a sound that truly defies categorization. In seeing her perform live, you will experience her years of jazz guitar training, her classical choral background, and fine folk storytelling delivered with brave theatrical flair. She can fluently paint scenery, evoke emotions, and tell complete stories with her sound. Careful listeners may hear multiple stories layered in her songs' chords, textures and lyrics. Evoking powerful subconscious emotions and layering on profoundly philosophical lyrics that speak to our consciousness, she is able to create music that is simultaneously about love and heartbreak, good and evil, reality and dreams. She uses this bewildering superpower to create songs that transport the audience into savored scenes of honest emotion and heightened senses. There, audiences are invited to ponder what gives their own lives sacred joy, morality and meaning. With every performance, her listeners who come expecting a "just another" singer-songwriter are simply blown away.
